Antonio's Annual Toy Drive (2008-2012)
In 2008 we thought it would be a great idea to get family and friends together just before the holidays all in one place. We added the toy drive as a reminder as to what the holidays are about and to begin teaching our daughter about the gift of giving. So in 2008, after a horrible blizzard we gathered at Extreme Fun Indoor Playground, and with the attendance of 15 people, we were still able to fill up two trucks of toys to the local fire department. 2009 had a better turn out, with approx 50 people in attendance, and almost 200 toys!
In 2010 after the birth of our son Antonio, we changed the event name in his honour and began to fundraise for Surrey Place Centre. It was our third year, and with approx 85 people in attendance we raised over $8000 and many many developmental toys for the infancy program.
In 2011, we were chosen as the feature family in their annual report, and had the opportunity to share our story. It was time to get a bigger venue, and we can proudly share that we raised over $12,000 and over 150 toys! In addition to the toy registry at the centre for clients and their siblings, some of the proceeds have been allocated to the renovation of the playground area at Surrey Place Centre, so thank you thank you thank you for your generosity.
In 2012, I was presented with the June Callwood Award. In addition, our family received a plaque in appreciation of our fundraising efforts at a beautiful ceremony. We share these achievements with all the volunteers, sponsors, donors, friends and family because we couldn't have done any of it without you.
Thank you to my family who keep me inspired to keep going!
